Girl, 9, dies in two-car collision

A 9-year-old Alcolu girl died Thursday in a two-car collision in Clarendon County.

The girl was a passenger in a Buick driven by Andrea Coker, 17, also of Alcolu. Coker was driving north on U.S. 301 about 2 miles north of Manning around 2:45 p.m. when she attempted to turn left and was struck by an oncoming car, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson said.

The younger girl, whose name was not immediately available, was not wearing a seat belt. A second passenger, Abigail Coker, 10, was injured and taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital. It ws not clear if she was belted. Andrea Coker was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

The driver and passenger in the second car, a Buick Rendezvous, both were injured. Driver April Rembert, 31, of Bishopville, was taken to Clarendon Memorial. Her passenger, 54-year-old Marvin Farmer of Alcolu, had minor injuries, Robinson said.
