Police blotter

RICHLAND COUNTY SHERIFF

Forest Wood Drive, 200 block: A woman called police at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and said someone was sending her text-message warnings about her husband. The woman said she had received several messages telling her to keep an eye on her husband, but the woman she suspected of sending the messages denied contacting her.

Bush River Road, 1100 block: A man called police from a motel at 3 a.m. Friday and said someone had shattered his room window. The man told deputies the motel was under construction and the only people staying there were the workers. He said that earlier in the evening, a stranger had knocked on his door asking to use his cell phone. He said he told him no, and the man left. The caller said the person could have been upset about not getting to use the phone.

Lower Richland Boulevard, 1200 block: A man called police at 11 a.m. Friday and said another man had damaged his trailer. The 54-year-old man told deputies he and an 18-year-old man were hanging out when the younger man suddenly got angry. The younger man then pried a car radio from a nearby vehicle and threw it at the older man’s trailer, causing more than $100 in damage.

IRMO POLICE

St Andrews Road, 7000 block: Police were called to a grocery store at 1:30 a.m. Saturday after employees reported a shoplifter. When officers arrived, they found a man in the parking lot matching the employees’ description, but the 50-year-old man denied stealing anything. Officers searched the area and found a bag of cedar chips and a pack of pork chops that store clerks said they saw the man take.

Broad River Road, 7000 block: An 18-year-old woman was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Saturday after police spotted her car swerving and she made a couple of unsafe lane changes. Officers pulled her over and determined that she was intoxicated, as her eyes were glassy, her speech was slurred, and she failed all of the field sobriety tests. She got angry when told she was being arrested and refused to sign documents regarding the arrest. She repeatedly told officers she was not drunk because she was only 18 and not allowed to drink in this state.

St. Andrews Road, 7000 block: A man was arrested at 11 p.m. Saturday after a grocery store cashier refused to sell him a beer. The 22-year-old man went into the store at 10:30 p.m. to try to buy some beer, but because he was weaving, slurring his words and smelled of alcohol, the cashier refused to sell him any more alcohol. The man then went to the aisle where the beer was kept, took one off the shelf and went to the restroom with it. After a few minutes in the restroom, the man emerged without the beer. Officers later found the empty can in the trash.
