    <description>&lt;strong&gt;CHAPIN&lt;/strong&gt; &amp;#8212; A celebration of life for Jerry Leon Fowler, 61, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, Lexington. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Results Team. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.&lt;p/&gt;Mr. Fowler died Thursday, May 15, 2008. Born in Laurinburg, N.C., he was the son of Glenna Hatcher Fowler and the late Leon Dixon Fowler. A graduate of Laurel Hill High School, Laurel Hill, N.C., he attended UNC-Pembroke. He and his father owned and operated Fowler Tire Service and also a home security business in Laurinburg. After moving to Columbia, he founded Jerry Fowler and The Result Team Realtors. He hosted a real estate talk show, &amp;#8220;Real Estate Focus&amp;#8221; for sixteen years on WVOC.&lt;p/&gt;Mr. Fowler was active in the Laurinburg Jaycees. He was a member of the Lexington/Richland School District 5 Board and Better Business Bureau Board, member and speaker of the Board of Realtors and member of Cyber Professionals, a nationwide group of realtors. He was co-founder and director of Business Development Club. A motivational speaker, he had spoken recently to many church groups about his illness.&lt;p/&gt;Surviving are his wife, Judy Ann Amick Fowler; son, Jerry Leon &amp;#8220;Lee&amp;#8221; Fowler, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; stepson, Stewart Thrower of Chicago, Ill.; daughters, Kristina Pruyn and Tracey Hartman, both of Marco Island, Fla.; his mother of Laurinburg; stepdaughter, Chris Thrower Rogers of Lillington, N.C.; sisters, Angela Fowler and Cynthia Fowler Seebeck and her husband, Skip, all of Laurinburg; eleven grandchildren; and nephews, Forrest and Kimball Seebeck.&lt;p/&gt;In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.</description>

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Withers, wife of the late Wesley J. Withers, died Thursday, May 15, 2008. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was the second child of Stephen and Leila Scott Haynie. She grew up in Iva and Anderson and lived most of her adult life in St. Petersburg, Fla.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Withers entered the U.S. Navy during World War II as a WAVE. After the war, she went to Temple University and received a degree in dental hygiene. She then pursued her career as a dental hygienist in St. Petersburg. She was very active in her professional organizations. At retirement she enjoyed a career in real estate for several years.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Withers moved to Columbia to be with her family. She lived with her now-deceased sister, Nannie Mae &amp;#8220;Nan&amp;#8221; McCarley, for many years. The two of them traveled extensively and enjoyed playing bridge at the Keenan House. She was an ardent reader and very active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, especially the V.O.E. of the church. She was also very active in all functions at the Finley House where she lived the last few years.&lt;p/&gt;Surviving are niece, Nancy King and her husband, Bert King of Columbia; great-nieces, Kathy Peckham and her husband, Jeff Peckham and Donna DuPre and her husband, Jeff DuPre; great-great-nephews, Andrew and Jonathan Peckham and great-great-niece, Sarah Nan Bishop.</description>

Ron Avant officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Northeast. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 Saturday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Born in Ithaca, NY, she was a daughter of the late Howard W. and Lydia Pearl Swansbrough. Mrs. Reitenauer was a graduate of Ithaca High School, Ithaca, NY, and moved to South Carolina in 1956. She was formerly employed with CIGNA, Inc. for over 20 years. Upon retirement she went to work at Baptist Medical Center where she had been employed over 11 years in Admissions. Mrs. Reitenauer was a member of Killian Baptist Church.&lt;p/&gt;Survivors include her son, Anthony (Yale) Cobb and fiancee, Carolyn Keaton of Gaston; daughter, Deborah Cobb Sturgess and husband Rocky, of Lugoff; grandchildren, Andrew Turner of Columbia, Kelly Marie Sturgess and Cory Alexander Sturgess, both of Lugoff; brothers, Harry R Hornbrook and wife Jean of Elmira, NY, and Robert L Hornbrook and wife Cindy of Dewitt, AR; sisters, Beverly J. Hornbrook Craft and husband Andy of Lake Wales, FL; lifelong sister-in-law, Millie Cobb of Columbia.     <description>&lt;strong&gt;SALUDA&lt;/strong&gt; &amp;#8212; Clara Eafyan Mayer Edwards, 92, widow of Joseph Preston Edwards, died May 16, 2008, in Heartland of West Columbia.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Edwards was the daughter of the late Floyd Terrance and Lila Agnes Mayer of Little Mountain, South Carolina. Upon her marriage to Joe Edwards, she moved to Saluda where she lived most of her adult life. She worked in the textile industry, loved to garden and cook, and was an avid reader in her later years. Mrs. Edwards lived her life based on five basic principles: serve God, help others, work hard whatever the task, demonstrate the love you have for your family with your actions every day, and enjoy everything that results from the first four principles. Mrs. Edwards was practical, loyal, faithful, sensible, stoic, quiet, patient and even-tempered. She possessed a sense of fun and good humor that delighted those who knew and loved her.&lt;p/&gt;She is survived by two sons, Homer and his wife Betty, with whom she lived with for several years, and Terry and his wife Ruth, all of Lexington, SC; four grandchildren, J.K. Edwards, Ann (Mike) Heywood, Teresa (Bradley) Taylor, and Melinda Edwards; and two great-grandchildren, Summer Edwards and Preston Taylor. Also surviving are a brother, Franklin Mayer of Little Mountain, a niece and three nephews.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, and a brother, Enoch Mayer.&lt;p/&gt;Visitation will be from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at Red Bank Baptist Church, 309 East Church Street, Saluda, SC.     <description>&lt;strong&gt;COLUMBIA&lt;/strong&gt; &amp;#8212; Florence Edwina Young Cole, 65, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, ending her seven year struggle with cancer, chrons and congestive heart failure, with family and friends at her bedside.&lt;p/&gt;Services will be held Monday, May 19, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Michael&amp;#8217;s Lutheran Church, 400 River Road, Lake Murray, by her beloved pastor, the Reverend Dwight Wessinger. Burial will follow in Columbia in Elmwood Cemetery and Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road in Irmo. Serving as active pallbearers will be S.C. Department of Corrections former associates, Lew Jernigan, Tommy Cave and John Ferraro, her nephews, Edward B. Young, IV and Walker Young, and a cousin, Richard Farley. Training Academy.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Cole, daughter of the late Capt. Edward B. Young, Jr., (U.S. Army) and Leonilla Ketchen &amp;#8220;Smookie&amp;#8221; Young (also affectionately known as Oma), was born in Fort Jackson October 30, 1942. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and the University of S.C. where she met and married her beau, Warren Cole nearly 47 years ago. At U.S.C. she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She had a long career in state government with the S.C. Department of Corrections Training Academy. She retired at the beginning of 2007 to enjoy more visits with her grandchildren in Connecticut, N.Y.C. and Edisto Island. She was a member of the National Institute of Corrections, the Correctional Police Officers Association and the National Notary Association and was a noted equestrian trainer throughout the midlands, with several of her students becoming leaders on the U.S.C. Equestrian Team. She was an avid reader, NASCAR and gamecock fan, an excellent shag dancer, and loved working in her flower gardens and playing bridge with her lifelong friends, who remained devoted to her until the end of her illness. An accomplished seamstress, she also loved decorating and reupholstering furniture in her home and the homes of her daughters. She is survived by her husband, Robert Warren Cole; three daughters, Leigh Anne Cole Brazell, Rebecca Cole Williams (David) and Mikel Cole Girard (Jason); three grandchildren, Savanna Leigh Brazell, and Bryson Lee and Dawson Cole Williams. Her brothers, Edward B. Young, III (Cynthia), Robert W. Young (Lynn) and Michael J. Young (Kathi) and she leaves as well many aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Florence will also be missed by many friends, work associates and equestrian acquaintances, as well as her NASCAR family in the grandstands at Lowe&amp;#8217;s Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, next week.&lt;p/&gt;The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Ronald Myatich of Southern Surgical Associates, the nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Center 8th floor Oncology, the nurses and staff of Ascension Hospice House, Irmo and to Florence&amp;#8217;s childhood friend and daily caregiver, Jane Bates &amp;#8220;J.B.&amp;#8221; Graham.&lt;p/&gt;Due to her lifelong love for Edisto Beach, Florence would want memorials made to the Edisto Island Open Land Trust, PO Box 1, Edisto Island, SC 29438 or to St. Michael&amp;#8217;s Lutheran Church Building Fund, 400 River Road, Columbia, SC 29212.</description>

He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Allendale.&lt;p/&gt;Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Allendale, with Bishop Charles Farmer Duval officiating. Interment will be in Swallow Savannah Cemetery.&lt;p/&gt;Survivors include one sister, Martha Bryan Farmer Bales of Barnwell, SC; one sister-in-law, Gloria Harvey Farmer of Beech Island, SC; five nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew.     <description>&lt;strong&gt;DARLINGTON&lt;/strong&gt; &amp;#8212; Sue Flinn James Clarkson, age 95, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in a local nursing home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at St. Matthew&amp;#8217;s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.&lt;p/&gt;Born in Darlington, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth McIver James and the late Sue Smyth Flinn James. She was married to the late Blanding D. Clarkson for 61 years. A graduate of Coker College, class of 1934, Mrs. Clarkson worked in Columbia for the W.P.A. and, following her marriage in 1939, she moved to Hartsville where she was one of the founders of Girl Scouting in Hartsville. She later served as a leader, trainer and member of the Board of Directors of the Pee Dee Area Girl Scout Council. She was instrumental in finding and obtaining the Council camp &amp;#8220;Sandy Ridge&amp;#8221; in Marlboro County.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. Clarkson was always active in church activities at St. Bartholomew&amp;#8217;s, Hartsville, and later at St. Matthew&amp;#8217;s, Darlington, after moving there upon her husband&amp;#8217;s retirement. She served as a member of the choir, a lay reader, a member of the Episcopal Church Women, and Altar Guild. During the 1960s she was an advisor to the Canterbury Club at Coker College.&lt;p/&gt;Survivors include a son, Blanding D. Clarkson, Jr. of Rock Hill, a daughter, Emeline J. Clarkson of Darlington, and three grandchildren, Blanding Lee Clarkson, Flinn Thomas Clarkson and Lauren James Clarkson.&lt;p/&gt;She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Baldwin James Lawson and her brother, John J. James.</description>

Dwight McAlister, entered into her eternal rest Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Commander Nursing Center in Florence, SC.&lt;p/&gt;Mrs. McAlister was born in Florence County, a daughter of Claude Richardson White and Sudie Collins White. She graduated from Hannah High School and Limestone College. Teaching was her chosen career. She taught in the public school systems of North and South Carolina until her retirement.&lt;p/&gt;She was predeceased by her sisters, Rubye Eaddy, Myrtle Norment and Jessie Lou Gaskins; her brothers, Stanley White and Harry White; and a stepgrandson, Calvin Lowrimore, Jr.&lt;p/&gt;Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, James (Patty) Fowler; grandsons, Kenneth (Lynn) Fowler, Keith (Leigh Ann) Fowler; great-grandchildren, Rachel (James) Bowman, Megan Fowler, Kalin Fowler and Keligh Fowler, all of Asheboro, NC; stepson, Mac (Paula) McAlister; stepdaughter, Mary Helen (Calvin) Lowrimore, Sr.; stepgrandchildren, Logan McAlister and Carolina McAlister; her brother, David (Buena) White; brother-in-law, Kent Gaskins, all of Hannah, SC; her sisters, Betty W. Malcolm, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Columbia, SC.&lt;p/&gt;Mr. Malcolm grew up in McKees Rocks, PA, and Parkersburg, WV, where he graduated from Parkersburg High School. He served in the Marines at the end of World War II and re-enlisted after graduating from Marietta College, Marietta, OH, in 1951 with a degree in business and economics. He served during the Korean War and after that in the Reserve in Minneapolis, MN. He resigned his commission as a captain, but was always proud to be a Marine.&lt;p/&gt;After military service he worked for the General Fireproofing Company in Youngstown, OH, Minneapolis, MN, and Charlotte, NC. In 1965, he joined Harper Brothers in Greenville, SC, as vice president of furniture sales. Mr. Malcolm retired from Harper Brothers in 1990.&lt;p/&gt;In Greenville, he was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and Sunday School, Downtown Rotary Club and was active as a parent with Boy Scout Troop 256 at Aldersgate Church.&lt;p/&gt;Born February 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George A. and Laura Read Malcolm. Surviving are two sisters, Laura Jane Cooper of Parkersburg, WV, and Lois Mae Herrmann of Lake Jackson, TX.</description>

    <description>&lt;strong&gt;HAMPTON&lt;/strong&gt; &amp;#8212; Reverend Harry Thompson Flory, 73, of Victoria, VA, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at his residence in Hampton, SC.&lt;p/&gt;Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at First Christian Church, 400 Holly Street West, Hampton. Reverend Claude Hydrick and Reverend Eugene Hydrick, both Christian Church ministers and brothers-in-law of Harry, will be officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Flory, Scott Hydrick, Richard Hydrick, James Hydrick, Pete Gosnell and James Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Shaffer, George Herder, John Fetty, Charlie Williams, Bernard Winn and Tom Walls.&lt;p/&gt;Reverend Flory was born February 27, 1935, in Alliance, Ohio, and was the son of the late Walter Russell Flory and Ethel Mae Little Flory. Reverend Flory served our Lord as minister of First Christian Church in Chase City, VA, and Mount Olivet Christian Church in Victoria, VA. He served his country first in the United States Air Force and then in the United States Army, with 13 years combined service. He served two terms in Vietnam and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion.&lt;p/&gt;Reverend Flory leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, Patricia Hydrick Flory; two sons, Dennis Flory of Columbia, SC, and Douglas Flory of Richmond, VA; brother, Lawrence &amp;#8220;Larry&amp;#8221; Flory of Canton, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is also survived by many loving Christian brothers and sisters in present and past ministries with congregations in Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles &amp;#8220;Chuck&amp;#8221; Flory, Robert &amp;#8220;Bob&amp;#8221; Flory and Russell &amp;#8220;Ike&amp;#8221; Flory; and sisters, Helen Flory Van Kirk, Thelma Flory Smith and Mildred Flory.&lt;p/&gt;In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Christian Church, 400 Holly Street West, Hampton, SC 29924, which will be made to an outreach mission in Harry&amp;#8217;s name.</description>
