Solutions to growing the economy

July 6, 2008

After several years of fits and starts, the North Main Streetscaping Project is adding curbing and landscaping to make the gateway to the area more appealing. That’s the most visible evidence that changes are starting. A look at what else community leaders say needs to be done:

• Clean out vacant lots and trim back overgrown trees and underbrush

• Open more stores and restaurants within walking distance of neighborhoods

• Drum up more private investment

• Complete streetscaping to Fairfield Road

• Target abandoned and neglecting houses, and fine the owners

• Reinstitute community policing
