Freshman left USC two weeks ago

Former South Carolina kicker-punter Ryan Doerr has transfered to Kansas State, according to Gamecock special teams coach Ray Rychleski.

Doerr left the team after the opener against North Carolina State, when Doerr did not play. Coach Steve Spurrier said Doerr was homesick, while Rychleski said he dressed down Doerr in a meeting, which "was probably a big reason he left, but there has to be some other reason."

Doerr, a native of Katy, Texas, was the first kicker the Gamecocks gave a scholarship since Ryan Succop. The plan was to redshirt Doerr this season, after he lost a preseason battle for the punting job to Spencer Lanning.

Deep snapper Charles Turner was awarded Doerr's scholarship.
