Football: South Aiken at Dreher

South Aiken notes: The Thoroughbreds (0-5) had their best offensive performance of the season last week, but still came up short in a 26-23 loss to Barnwell. Denzell Washington paced SA’s attack with 137 yards rushing and one touchdown on 31 carries … South Aiken managed a total of only 12 points, scoring just one touchdown, in its first four games.

Dreher notes: The Blue Devils concluded non-region play with a 22-10 loss to Keenan last week. Devante Sims paced a 202-yard rushing attack with 104 yards on 12 carries. Sheldon Van Dyke tallied the lone Dreher touchdown … Van Dyke and Sims have accounted for the bulk of Dreher’s offensive production to date. Van Dyke has 347 yards rushing on 71 totes, while Sims has 342 yards on 54 attempts … Jabril Williams leads the defense with 61 tackles. He also had six sacks. Farrington Hugenin has 41 tackles and seven sacks … Kicker Kurt Stoudenmire has been a standout so far. He is 4-for-4 in PAT boots, 2-for-3 in field goals and is averaging 43.1 yards per punt.

Series history: The teams are meeting for the first time since 1991. South Aiken moved up to Class 4A in 1992. SA won eight of the 10 region battles between 1982 and 1991.
