Man killed when car drives into pond

A Cope man was killed Saturday night after the car he was riding in drove into a pond.

The wreck occurred on Slab Landing Road in Orangeburg County.

The driver, 55-year-old Clarence Bryant of Cope, drove a 1989 Chevy S10 Blazer off the roadway and into a pond.

Bryant was taken to Orangeburg Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the vehicle died. His identity has not yet been released.

Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor.

The incident is under investigation.
