Columbia man, 73, killed in interstate wreck

A Columbia man was killed this morning when his car was hit by a truck.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the eastbound ramp leading from St. Andrews Road to Interstate 26.

Donald Rueter, 73, died when a Dodge Ram attempting to exit the interstate crossed over a divided median and struck the Buick Park Avenue Rueter was driving, Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman said.

Rueter was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others in the Buick were taken to Lexington Medical Center.

The driver and a passenger in the Dodge Ram were not injured.

The incident is being investigated by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the S.C. Highway Patrol.
