CLEMSON – Dabo Swinney has agreed in principle to become Clemson’s next coach, sources have told The State.

Several details have yet to be finalized, but an announcement could come as early as Monday.

Swinney, 39, was offered the job this afternoon during his planned interview with athletic director Terry Don Phillips.

He lead the Tigers to a 4-2 record as interim coach, punctuated by Saturday’s dominant 31-14 victory over rival USC.

According to a source, Swinney was not offered the job immediately after the game so as to avoid the misconception he got the job based on beating USC alone.

Swinney’s next step will be choosing a staff. He is expected to at least retain acting play-caller Billy Napier and offensive line coach Brad Scott.
