Chapin man, 28, killed in crash

A Chapin man died early today on Wessinger Road when he was thrown from an SUV, authorities said.

Barrett Clyde James Kirk, 28, was prounounced dead about 2:45 a.m. Saturday seven miles southeast of town after a 2001 Mitsubishi he was driving ran off the left side of the 2600 block of road, the Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s office said.

The vehicle struck a tree, flipped and Kirk was thrown through a sunroof, the coroner’s office said.

Kirk was not wearing a seat belt and weather conditions were clear and dry, the patrol said.

The wreck remains under investigation, the coroner’s office said.
