Spring Valleys potent girls basketball team meets lowly South Aiken Tuesday at home before taking a two-week break from competition. The Vikings have 13 days off before getting back into action in the Taco Bell Holiday Classic at Keenan on Dec. 27.

Anne Longs team improved to 5-1 on the season with lopsided, back-to-back wins over Brookland-Cayce and Irmo at the end of last week. The Vikings crushed Brookland-Cayce 78-26 on Dec. 11, and followed with its second rout of the Yellow Jackets, 72-47, the following night.

Freshman Asia Dozier had 16 points and six assists vs. B-C, and Amelia Dozier scored 10 points with three assists and five rebounds. Kynyata Simmons chipped in seven points and eight boards to the cause, and Jocelyn Lawrence pulled down a team high nine rebounds. Spring Valley had a 25-0 advantage in the third quarter.

After building a slight 14-10 lead in the first period at Irmo, the Vikings put the Yellow Jackets away with a 45-12 run in the middle two quarters. Xylina McDaniel and Asia Dozier were the big guns. McDaniel had a double-double 21 points, 10 rebounds and hit 8 of 12 field goal attemps. Dozier finished with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor and dished out six assists.

Asia Dozier leads the team is scoring (21.7 ppg), assists (3.8 apg) and steals (3.6 spg). McDaniel is averaging 12.7 points and 7.3 rebounds. Savonia Bryan has a slight team lead on the boards at 7.4 rpg. Briana Robinson is averaging 9.3 points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Shaquita Walker has also been a steady contributor 5.6 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.8 spg.

Spring Valley crushed South Aiken 92-21 in the first meeting on Dec. 5.

What are some of the features of Disqus commenting?
