A 17-year-old man who died of a gunshot wound to the neck after being shot in a house at 800 Woodside Ave. has been identified, authorities said Sunday.

The victim was identified as Justin Green, 17, of 517 N. Lincolnshire Dr., Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

The circumstances behind the Saturday night shooting death are unclear and could have even been some kind of accident, a Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.

“We’re not ruling anything out now,” the spokeswoman said.

First reports said Green was outside the house when shot. But authorities said Sunday afternoon they had learned the shooting took place inside the Woodside Avenue house.

The fatally wounded Green was brought to Palmetto Health Richland where he was pronounced dead at 8:12 p.m. Saturday, Watts said.

An autopsy done Sunday morning confirmed Green died of one bullet to the neck, Watts said. The sheriff’s department is investigating.
