Player of the year: Taylor Lewis

School: Brookland-Cayce

Year: Junior

Today's news video

Position: center midfield

What he did: Scored 26 goals and made seven assists to lead the Bearcats. Was named to all-state and all-region teams.

The highlight of his year: “Definitely our win at North Myrtle Beach. Going to another team’s stadium in the playoffs is big. Coming out and playing hard, with a young team like we had, and coming home with a win, you couldn’t ask for more.”

His toughest class: “I’ve been in AP calculus all year and that is hard, to focus on that all year long.”

His favorite class: “I’m definitely into the math, that’s why I’m in AP calculus. I’d like to become an engineer, a nuclear engineer.”

Teammate he admires: “He’s an alumni. My brother used to play soccer and his friend Troy Lesesne is who I looked up to; the way he played is how I tried to model myself after while I’m in high school soccer.”

He looks forward to: “I can’t say easy classes because I’m not taking any; I’ve still got a tough schedule next year. I look forward to the playoffs, when every time I step on the field I know it could be the last time.”

Last movie he saw: “The Watchmen. I know that came out a long time ago, but once soccer season starts everything else slows down, like going to the movies.”

His summer job: “I worked at AGAPE Senior last year and I might go back there. Or I might go to Brunches, my favorite restaurant.”

Best advicehe has received: “Play for what’s on the front of the jersey, not what’s on the back. We’re a very proud program and we are proud to play for Brookland-Cayce.”
