South Carolina learned Monday that it will not be getting defensive back Darrell Givens.
Givens, a Penn State signee who could not gain admission to the Big Ten school, has decided to attend Rutgers, according to a source close to the situation.
USC officials were scheduled to meet Tuesday about Givens’ possible admission.
Givens had been asked to provide very specific information regarding his academic records and a letter from Penn State confirming his release from the letter of intent.
Givens was looking for a school after being denied admission last week, and he canceled his visit to North Carolina, according to the Web site InsideCarolina.com.
Givens was told the academic review process at North Carolina would take a week, and he would not know his enrollment situation until after the start of preseason drills. Givens wants to be at his school in time for the start of practice.
