Thumps up, thumbs down; injury report

UP to redshirt freshman defensive end Devin Taylor. In the starting lineup because of Clifton Geathers’ suspension, the Beaufort native forced a fumble that set up USC’s only score, blocked a punt and added six tackles, including three for loss.

UP to USC’s defensive staff for a timely timeout. N.C. State appeared to have the Gamecocks on the ropes, driving to the USC 38-yard line midway through the fourth quarter. But after the timeout, the Wolfpack gained 2 yards on three plays and had to punt.

UP to linebacker Shaq Wilson. Wilson was all over the field after stepping in for Rodney Paulk, who went down with what is believed to be a season-ending knee injury. Wilson tied for the team high with eight tackles, and showed off his speed running sideline to sideline to make plays.

DOWN to the kicking game. USC twice drove to or inside the N.C. State 10-yard line and came away with nothing. Charles Turner’s low snap spoiled the first field goal chance, while Spencer Lanning pulled a 27-yard attempt wide left.
