Environmental activist and nature photographer Sparkle Clark announced her campaign for Columbia mayor Tuesday, pledging to fight for a "clean, lean and green" city government.

Clark, a U.S. Postal Service worker for 28 years, grew up in the Melrose Heights neighborhood and graduated from Dreher High School.

Clark joins the race with declared candidates Steve Benjamin, a local attorney; Kirkman Finlay, a City Council member; and Joseph Azar, a Five Points businessman.
