Spring Valley is officially on the national map for girls' basketball.

The Sporting News lists the defending Class 4A champion Vikings as one of its 20 teams to watch in the 2009-10 season. The Vikings caught the magazine's attention with their 27-1 run last season. With five starters back, including Asia Dozier (18.3 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 steals) and Xylina McDaniel (13.3 points, 7.9 rebounds), the squad is expected to do major damage this year.

While The Sporting News has its eye on the team, none of the Vikings were named to the Preseason All-America team.

J.L. Mann's Camille Glymph and South Pointe's Chelsea Douglas were listed as honorable mention All-Americans and were South Carolina's only recognized female players.

On the Rivals.com top 150 seniors list, Berkeley's Bruce Ellington is ranked No. 94 and R.J. Slawson, of Fort Dorchester, is at 112. Damien Leonard, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from J.L. Mann, is No. 14 in the service's rankings of the top 150 juniors.
