"First game we played was a pretty good one to start on, because we won 56-20 (in 1975).
"We were a new coaching staff, and our players just got to where they felt comfortable. It was one of those days. From there on, we had nothing but war with them."

Warren Giese (USC , 1956-60)
"In my five years, we lost to them four times, so I really value that fifth game that took place where we won 26-6 in my third year there (1958).
"But over the years, I really have appreciated the fierce rivalry that is good in nature. In my opinion, Frank Howard and I were always good friends."
Sparky Woods (USC , 1989-93)
My memory of it is two games. My first year there was a sobering experience. They beat us 45-0 with all those (future) pro guys like Terry Allen and Levon Kirkland. I realized how far ahead of us they were, and I said, 'Oh, my God; we've got miles to go.'
"But my next-to-last year, we won at Clemson 24-13. That was especially gratifying because we beat them the way they beat us. We were the ones getting stronger at the end of the game."
Tommy West (Clemson, 1994-98)
"My memory is that that's (the) most fun I've ever had. That rivalry is so much fun. You miss it when you're away from it. There's so much riding on those games and so much enthusiasm that you miss being away from those games. It's really electric.
"As far as the games, we were behind them (physically) when I took over. But in my second year (1995), we took the game over physically, especially in the second half, and took it back (Clemson won 38-17). Then we won three of the last four games."
Ken Hatfield (Clemson, 1990-93)
"My lasting memory is the last game I coached there (in 1993). We were down 10 points at halftime in Columbia. We went for it on fourth down and completed a 24-yard pass to Jason Davis. Later we scored on fourth down to tie the game. We finally won it 16-13.
"No matter what rivalry you're in, you always think it's the biggest. The difference there is, they are in the same state. That is the thing that the folks in the coffee shops were going to talk about all year."
Danny Ford (Clemson 1978-89)
"My top memory would have to be when we went undefeated (in 1981), the national championship team. We went down there and won (29-13) to complete the undefeated regular season."
