N.C. ski resorts welcome cold snap

Black Friday was a welcome White Friday for snow ski buffs in the South.

The cold blast hitting the South this week allowed the North Carolina ski season to open Friday. Sugar Mountain and Cataloochee resorts cranked up their snow-making machines this week, and the chair lifts were moving Friday.

Several Southern ski areas opened in early November last year. For Sugar, this is the latest opening since 2001.

Today's news video

Most of the other ski areas in the Southeast plan to open in early December.
