PLAYERS TO WATCH

RB Marcus Lattimore, Byrnes

A senior who is a finalist for the U.S. Army National Player of the Year award, Lattimore is one of the nation's top recruits. He rushed for 186 yards and four touchdowns in the Rebels' victory against Spartaburg on Friday. He has break-away ability every time he touches the ball.

WR Charone Peake, Dorman

Also blessed with break-away ability on every play, Peake is one of the state's top junior prospects. The Cavaliers prefer to gut out scoring drives with a strong running game, but Peake provides a blast of speed and athleticism to their attack. Teams aren't so quick to stack eight in the box against Dorman with Peake around.

Byrnes will win if ...

The Rebels play their usual dominating, mistake-free style. QB Chas Dodd has plenty of talent (51 TD passes, five interceptions) and has quarterbacked two state title wins. The Rebels defense has plenty of playmakers as well. Any attempts to stop Byrnes in title games this decade have proved futile.

Dorman will win if ...

It's suffocating defense plays its best game of the season. The Cavaliers enter the championship game having posted back-to-back shutouts against Irmo and Gaffney - two high-powered offensive teams. Dorman's first-hand knowledge of the Rebels gives it an edge previous Byrnes title-game foes didn't possess.

PREDICTION: Byrnes 24, Dorman 14
