A Columbia woman was killed Tuesday morning on Clemson Road after her car slid on a patch of ice and collided with another vehicle.

Carolyn Denise Underwood, 39, of Curvewood Road was on her way to work at 5:55 a.m. when her Toyota drove over a patch of ice, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Underwood's car crossed the center line of Clemson Road. It was hit by a Ford driven by Amanda McDonald, 26, of Columbia, said Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Underwood's car was hit on the passenger side. She was wearing a seat belt but died from massive trauma, Watts said.

McDonald also was wearing a seat belt, Robinson said.

The accident happened in front of the Carriage Oaks subdivision.
