THE COLUMBIA COLLEGE POLICE DEPARTMENT has received a $2,365 grant from PalmettoPride that will be used to purchase cameras and other equipment to assist in illegal dumping and litter investigations.

MASHBURN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY donated food intended for its employee Christmas party to Harvest Hope Food Bank. The donation, enough to feed 200 people, was made when the company canceled the Dec. 18 gathering due to bad weather. The hamburger meat, hot dogs, buns and side items were distributed to needy families the same day.
FOOD LION presented a $500 check to Harvest Hope Food Bank during the grand opening of the company's first "green" grocery store in the Midlands, at 4730 Hard Scrabble Road.

ARMY SPEC. JANET N. TAYLOR has re-enlisted in the U.S. Army after six years of military service. She is an automated logistical specialist assigned to the 434th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. A 2003 graduate of Columbia High School, Taylor is the daughter of Bessie James of Columbia.
