The State Media Co. on Monday announced the elimination of 12 newsroom jobs at The State newspaper to trim costs.
In addition, the paper is ending the Your Home section published on Sundays, and changing the look of the Weekend entertainment tab.
"This news is the latest in a series of actions we have taken to adapt to these historic economic circumstances and a changing business model," president and publisher Henry B. Haitz III said in an e-mail to employees.
"Although we saw some improvements in revenue trends at the end of 2009 and we are hopeful these trends will continue in 2010, revenues remain down," Haitz said. "As a result, we need to further reduce our work force to a more sustainable level."
Monday's announcement was the third time since June 2008 that The State has eliminated newsroom jobs. The company also has trimmed positions in other departments.
The drop in advertising revenue led editors to end one section and change the format of another.
The final Your Home section will be published Jan. 17. The section's Gardening page will move to Thursday's Life & Style section.
Weekend, which includes movie reviews and features of upcoming entertainment events, will still be published on Fridays. But the section will have a new format, switching to a broadsheet from a tabloid.
