If you're a fan of country fashion, you might be wondering where Brad Paisley gets his cool country gear. Well, wonder no more. The designer is Manuel, the one-name clothier who has been designing country music fashion for five decades.
Known as the Rhinestone Rembrant, Manuel and his son, Manuel Jr. (Manny), now have designed a special collection to mark the elder Manuel's 50-year heritage designing clothes for some of the Grand Ole Opry's best-known performers - including Hank Williams, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson and Keith Urban.
Named Opry by Manuel, the collection includes jackets, shirts, jeans and boots, for men and women, and features signature design elements such as rhinestones and embroidered roses. Prices start at $74.
Among Manuel's most famous designs are the suits worn by The Beatles on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." He also crafted Johnny Cash's black suits, the roses-and-skeletons insignia of the Grateful Dead, and the inflated-lips pillow for Mick Jagger, which was later modified into the logo for The Rolling Stones. He also designed Elvis' signature gold-lame suit and John Travolta's garb in "Urban Cowboy."
Here's a peek at some of the Opry by Manuel line:
- A black denim jacket ($110) features Western scroll embroidery on the back and signature shank buttons. Black relaxed-fit, boot-cut jeans ($90) are made from high-quality Japanese denim.
- A khaki Western shirt ($94), made from Italian pima cotton, has a back yoke detailed with cross-and-leaves embroidery and signature buttons.
- A woman's stretch-poplin blouse ($94) displays an embroidery of roses and thorns. Pair it with jeans ($115) that sport the rose/thorns motif on one leg. Crystal shanks and rivets add sparkle.
The collection is available at Opry Originals in downtown Nashville and at opry.com.
