DE Simmons commits to Gamecocks

January 24, 2010

Defensive end Corey Simmons (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) of Atlanta committed to South Carolina on Sunday.

His father was pleased with his decision.

"I think it's a place where he can get a good education, first of all," said Clyde Simmmons. "They have all the things in place to help him delvelop into the player he wants to be."

Simmons father, who played in the NFL, says his son had decided on Thursday.

"He made up his mind on Thursday but he wanted to visit and get to know the players," said dad. "Then like any good son, he wanted to discuss it with his mother and father before making a final decision."

Simmons is strong with his commitment and will not take another visit. Simmons' father says that they like what USC has to offer.

Simmons is the 20th pledge of the team's 2010 class. National Signing Day is Feb. 3.

He also had offers from Samford and Western Carolina, the alma mater of his father.
