Rising waters are threatening low-lying areas surrounding Lake Wateree as water levels continued to swell over the weekend because of recent heavy rains.
The lake, which has shorelines in Kershaw, Lancaster and Fairfield counties, crested Sunday morning, and water levels are expected to gradually decline from now on, according to the Lake Wateree Association.
However, additional rain is forecast for the Catawba River basin for Tuesday, and there is the potential for more precipitation later in the week.
