The South Carolina men's basketball team will qualify for either the NCAA or NIT tournaments this weekend, or its season will be over.
Coach Darrin Horn ruled out accepting an invitation to either of the third-tier postseason tournaments, the College Basketball Invitational or the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
"We want to compete and play in the NCAA tournament, and if we can't do that, then (the) NIT, with the changes that have been made, still puts you in the top 100 in the country in this postseason," Horn said Monday. "But anything beyond that is not anything that we're going to have an interest in."
The CBI is a 16-team tournament in its third year. The CIT is a 16-team tournament in its second year that caters to mid-major teams.
No SEC team has accepted a bid to ether of the tournaments. USC turned down the CBI two years ago after compiling a 14-18 record and while in the midst of a coaching search. Vanderbilt, which missed the NIT last year despite a 19-12 record, also turned down the CBI.
