Brothers Justin and Brent Roof set the tournament scoring record and to win the SCGA's Partners Championship played at Spring Valley Country Club and the Members Club at Woodcreek Farms courses.
Justin, who played at Wake Forest and lives in Myrtle Beach, and Brent, who played at South Carolina and lives in Columbia, combined for a 16-under par 128 to win by five strokes. They opened with a 64 on the first day's captain's choice format and posted another 64 on the second round's best-ball format.
Scott Friday (Simpsonville) and Steven Lindsay (Greenville) took second at 133. The teams of Benjy Miller (Spartanburg)-Kevin Roberts (Boiling Springs) and Rich Houghton (Columbia)-Steve Pachol (Columbia) shared third.
In the tournament division, Kevin Hester (Blythewood) and Dan Sullivan (Columbia) earned the title by one shot with a 135.
Saunders profiled. Sam Saunders, the grandson of Arnold Palmer who played at Clemson, is featured in this week's edition of Golf World. Playing on sponsors' exemptions, Saunders bounced back from missing the cut in Phoenix with a solid perormance in the Honda Classic. A final-hole bogey wiped out his chance for top 10.
College notes. USC Upstate earned its first tournament win in two years by capturing the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico. Josh Gallman and Brian Horton tied for the individual title. ...
South Carolina's men's team is 11th and Clemson's 18 in the latest Golf Week rankings. On the women's side, USC is No. 26.
Tournaments of note. The eGolf Professional Tour will stage the Golf in Morocco Classic March 24-27 at Columbia Country Club and Cobblestone Park Golf Club. The top eight finishers will earn spots in the European Challenge Tour's Moroccan Golf Classic. Golfers expected to compete include Tadd Fujikawa, U.S. Open qualifier at age 16 who shot a 62 on the PGA Tour; Brian Harman, a four-time All-American at Georgia; and Drew Weaver, former British Amateur champion. ...

Free event. The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, the PGA's Champions Tour event in Savannah from April 19-25, will offer free admission for Monday's activities. The day's schedule features competition in the Demaret Division (golfers 70 and older), which includes Bob Charles, Gary Player, Lee Trevino and Billy Casper.
The tourney will be played at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa.
Byrd Tournament. Columbia native Jonathan Byrd took time off from the PGA Tour this week, in large part to attend Thursday's "thank you" luncheon at The Members Club at Woodcreek and WildeWood for organizers and participants in the inaugural Jim Byrd Memorial Tournament, April 19-20 at the club.
The tournament will honor Byrd's father, who died last summer after a nearly two-year battle with a brain tumor. Taking part with Byrd will be 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson, sports psychologist/performance coach Morris Pickens and Sea Island, Ga.'s Mike Bender, who is Byrd's and Johnson's teacher.
Proceeds will benefit Fairway Outreach and the S.C. Junior Golf Association that has spawned such future professionals as Byrd, U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, Bill Haas and Charles Warren.
