DeAngelo Mack: March 14 diary

This week has been the start of official spring training. Unfortunately, I had a hamstring tweak last weekend and have not been able to participate fully in drills. The trainers have been helpful in my recovery to get me back on the field, and they are helping to get me ready for spring training. I come in early and stay late in order to do stretching exercises to try and prevent further issues with my hamstring.

Besides the hamstring tweak, spring training has been a great experience. It's kind of amazing to see how the organization manages to get 150 players ready for the season each day. Pitchers will go off to work with the pitching coaches and throw bullpens, while the position players do individual defensive work and take batting practice. As for the weather, it has been mostly in the 70s, and the rain has been consistent each afternoon. Even when it does rain, we manage to still get a lot of work done in the mornings. If it rains in the morning, we spend time in discussion with the veteran coaches learning more about the mental side of baseball.

During this week I also was able to move into my new apartment for the month. I am rooming with fellow outfielder Joe Talerico. Since moving into my apartment, I had some of my friends come to visit me for a few days this past week. We had the opportunity to explore Tampa, including some trips to some great restaurants, shopping and some time on some beautiful beaches. The best beach that I went to was actually near Sarasota, Siesta Keys beach. The beach had white sand that was as fine as powder and the water was crystal clear.

During that time I got to reunite with a Gamecock teammate, Justin Dalles. We had a good time hanging out and enjoying the weekend before spring training started. Thanks for reading and checking my blog, and if you have any questions, I have set up an e-mail address at dmackyankee@gmail.com. Feel free to shoot me some questions.
