On the ballot will be races for:
- One U.S. Senate and six U.S. House seats
- Governor and the other eight statewide offices
- All 124 state representatives
And in Richland and Lexington counties, there will be countywide offices and some County Council seats on the ballot.
Contests among Democrats and Republicans will be settled at a June 8 primary election, followed by a runoff June 22 for races in which no candidate receives more than 50 percent of primary ballots.
The general election is Nov. 2.
Candidates of seven other political parties are picked at conventions.
Winners of the primary matches will continue to the Nov. 2 general election.
Filing for nonpartisan municipal and school board races on that fall ballot occurs in late summer.
Referendum questions also can appear on that ballot if placed there by the Legislature and local officials.
You can vote only in one party's primary election, meaning you can't vote in a runoff of the other party. (But you can vote in a runoff if you didn't vote in the primary.)
Teens can register to vote until 30 days beforehand if they will be 18 at the time of the ballot.
