For Clemson coach Oliver Purnell:

What drew you to South Carolina?

The job. No question. When we started pulling back the covers, we discovered that Clemson is a real good job.

Video from around the world

Clemson has all the necessary elements to be a big-time basketball program. You start with the ACC, a great conference. Then it goes to the institution - Clemson is fabulous, and it has a beautiful campus.

What are the biggest challenges facing South Carolina?

Like all states, South Carolina faces a lot of big challenges.

Economically, there's unemployment. We need jobs. We need to better people's lives. We need to handle poverty in a more humane way. I think we need better educational opportunities. South Carolina needs to move up the ladder in the educational ranking.

So I'd say that economics and education, those are the two biggest things.

What about the Confederate flag?

The Confederate flag should have no place of prominence in South Carolina. It should not be displayed prominently in the state of South Carolina because of what it symbolizes.

I know I am very sensitive, being an African-American. The Confederate flag represents a time when African-Americans were enslaved. Our state should not be recognized for that.
