The Lexington County Republican Party has scheduled a special meeting Thursday to discuss a response to Sen. Jake Knotts calling a GOP gubernatorial candidate a “raghead.”

Knotts, a Republican, made the comment, referring to Lexington state Rep. Nikki Haley, on an Internet political talk show last week. A raghead is a derogatory term typically directed at Arabs or other cultures who wear headdress. In an e-mail to party members, chairman Rich Bolen said the remark has caused a “current media/political frenzy.”

The meeting is public, but only members of the Lexington GOP’s executive committee will be able to speak at the meeting.

The meeting will be 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Lexington County Administration Building.
