Tanner named Coach of the Year

Collegiate Baseball honored USC coach Ray Tanner as its national coach of the year on Thursday after he led the Gamecocks to their first national championship.

The Gamecocks became the first team to win six consecutive games in Omaha on the way to a title. It also was USC’s first national championship in a men’s sport.

Under Tanner, USC owns the longest current streak of regional appearances in the SEC with 11 consecutive trips.
