Merriman Changing Uniforms

LB Sammy Merriman (6-3 190) is about to become a Bulldog. Not a Georgia Bulldog. Or Citadel, South Carolina State or Mississippi State. Merriman is about to become a Marlboro County Bulldog.

Merriman, who has been a standout at Cheraw, said Sunday night he is transferring to Marlboro County after his family moved to Bennettsville. He's just waiting on the final approval of the High School League, and he said that should come shortly.

With the Bulldogs, Merriman will team up with highly touted linebacker Lateek Townsend. "Sideline to sideline, we've got it shut down," Merriman said.

As for his recruiting, Merriman has not been to any camps or taken any visits this summer. He plans to make trips during the school year. He has offers from Clemson, USC and Illinois. He's also getting interest from NC State, North Carolina, Oregon, Alabama, Nebraska, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

In state, Merriman prefers Clemson over USC right now saying the Tigers "show me a lot more love." But there's a school out West that really holds his interest. "I'm in love with the Oregon Ducks," he said. "If they offered, I'd jump on it right there."
