Published: July 22, 2010

Redshirt freshman offensive guard Nick Allison has quit the football team and returned to his home in Asheville, N.C., Steve Spurrier confirmed Thursday.

Allison was listed as the second team guard behind Garrett Chisolm going into preseason practice.

"How many of ya'll have heard of Nicky Allison?" Spurrier said while speaking at SEC media days in Hoover, Ala..

Spurrier said it appeared Allison was returning home to be closer to his girlfriend.

Allison was a three-year starter in high school and played in the 2008 Shrine Bowl. He was regarded as one of the top recruits in USC’s 2009 class.

His departure came a day before his 19th birthday.
