Gamecocks pick up OL commitment

Special to The StateJuly 23, 2010

OL Kaleb Broome (6-6 310) of Georgia Military JC committed to USC while on campus today. He was offered during his visit and commited on the spot.

"I chose South Carolina because of their tradition and because it's like my hometown," said Broome who is a native of Aiken. "I think Coach (Shawn) Elliott can make me a great player."

Broome plays right tackle and can also play guard. Broome had been favoring the Gamecocks ever since they became seriously involved and planned to commit when an offer was made. "They like that I'm really athletic," he said. "I could play defensive tackle. They like my quickness. That comes from playing basketball."

Broome also had an offer from East Carolina and drew interest from Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Washington State. Broome will graduate from GMA in December and enroll at USC in January. He will have three years to play two. He is the ninth commitment for USC's 2011 class.
