The Columbia Municipal Election Commission certified the District 2 election results this morning, making Brian DeQuincey Newman’s Tuesday night victory official.

The official results have Newman with 801 votes and Harold “Puff” Howard with 671 votes.

Newman will fill the unexpired term of former Councilman E.W. Cromartie, who was forced to resign in March after agreeing to plead guilty to federal tax evasion charges.

Newman will be sworn in tonight at 6 at City Hall, 1737 Main St. He will be up for re-election in 2012.
