Summer Celebration of Water is Aug. 28

Published: August 11, 2010

The first Summer Celebration of Water is set for Aug. 28 at Riverfront Park, 100 Laurel St.

The family festival, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will showcase the Broad River and historic Columbia Canal.

Festival-goers can tube or canoe in the canal, practice casting and fishing, and enjoy activities that teach about water resources and conservation. Children’s stories about nature will be featured in the “Together We Can Read…at the River” book nook. Columbia-Richland Fire Rescue will also be on hand with Rescue One to demonstrate water safety.

Participants are encouraged to dress to get wet with swim suits, river shorts, sandals and sunscreen.

The free event is presented by the city of Columbia in partnership with Richland County, Arcadia Lakes and Forest Acres.
