Lexington 1 officials Friday turned over what officials call "apparent irregularities" in athletic finances at White Knoll High School to deputies for further investigation.

School officials declined to identify the sport involved.

A report to the Sheriff’s Department said an audit by school staff found "some discrepancies" in a previously unknown account.

Members of the Atheltic Booster Club are cooperating, officials said. It is unclear what relationship the group had with the money.

Lexington 1 "takes any incident like this very seriously," spokeswoman Mary Beth Hill said.

Hill and sheriff’s spokesman Maj. John Allard declined to answer questions Friday, pending the outcome of the investigation.
