Chapin, Irmo and Dutch Fork confirmed early-season boys cross country billing with good outings in the blue-chip International Division on Saturday at the annual Coaches Classic meet at Sandhills Research Park.
Chapin, ranked No. 3 in the most recent SCTCCCA Class 3A poll, finished fourth overall behind only 3A top-ranked Hilton Head and 4A Midlands powers Ridge View and Lexington with 197 team points.
Along the way, the Eagles finished well ahead Wade Hampton of Greenville, which entered the meet ranked No. 2 behind Hilton Head.

Junior Heath Lorick paced the solid Chapin effort with a fourth-place finish and a time of 16 minutes, 6 seconds.
Lorick, an all-state runner a year ago, had excellent support from seniors Thomas Fitzpatrick (15th, 16:42), Carson Barnes (23rd, 16:58). Hunter McGeehee (70th, 17:44) and Alex Wallace (85th, 18:00).
Irmo, which moved into the Top 10 in the most recent rankings, confirmed its No. 4 billing in Class 4A by finishing seventh overall and fourth among big schools with 277 points.
Junior Andrew Jordan was the Yellow Jackets pace setter, finishing 19th in 16:51. Senior Andy Roof (29th, 17:03), junior Aaron Skiro (31st, 17:06), eighth-grader Patrick Duggan (18:02) and senior Evan Graczyk (18:23) fell in behind Jordan.
Dutch Fork, which was 10th in 4A on the preseason list and moved up three spots in the second poll of the season, could be moving up again when the new numbers are released.
With junior star Roland Hakes in the forefront, the Silver Foxes finished 11th in the International Division standings and were the sixth-best 4A finisher at the gathering.
Hakes finished third behind Ridge View’s Joe Keitt and Hilton Head’s Jack Felix in individual matters, clocking in at 16:04.
Junior Zac Jaynes (17:31), senior Jesse Richards (17:53), junior Michael Sherman (18:12) and sophomore Michael Bradley (18:35) closed out the DF scoring.
