Recycling event Saturday

Richland County residents can plan on recycling materials that shouldn’t go in the landfill.

The county’s department of solid waste is joining Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and Keep the Midlands Beautiful for the special collection, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the school, 3000 S. Beltline Blvd. in Columbia.

The following materials will be accepted:

Tires no larger than car or light-truck tires, with a limit of eight per family

Computers and computer accessories (keyboards, monitors, printers and scanners)

Televisions and stereos, (no consoles)

Household electronics, including VCRs, DVD players, power tools, radios, fax machines and small appliances

Microwave ovens

Telephones, cell phones, pagers and answering machines

Scrap metal except for refrigerators and air conditioners
