Game notes: Reggie Kennedy’s Griffins won nine of 10, losing only to top-ranked South Pointe. The reward is a home game against Berea, the No. 3 seed out of weak Region 2 … FC won the only previous meeting of the teams, 38-0 in the second round of the 1998 state playoffs … The Griffins boast a balanced attack that averaged 33.9 points and 362.6 yards per game. QB Danny Miller had a big year – completing 110 of 179 passes for 1,939 yards and 19 touchdowns with just four interceptions. The receiving corps features Chris Alston (28-796-11), Shaquille Young (22-338-4), NaJajwan McKinstry (19-379-3) and Dana Macklin (18-246-1). Jalen Pauling had 101 yards rushing and one TD on just seven carries … For the season Weimer is 119 for 222 passing for 1,313 yards and 10 TDs, while running for 671 yards and 11 tallies … On the defensive side, Devin Lawrence (124 tackles, 7 TFL, 4 sacks), Ryan Moore (98 tackles, 10 TFL, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions), Hunter Bickley (71 tackles, 4 TFL), Brian Langlois (89 tackles, 9 TFL) and Gilberto Alomar (46 tackles, 4 interceptions) lead the way … Seneca went 7-3 – its best regular-season showing in five years – under new coach Wayne Green. The Bobcats have won only two state playoff games since legendary coach Tom Bass retired in 1998.

SOCASTEE vs. AIRPORT

Site: Eagle Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Friday marks the first football meeting of the Eagles and Braves since 1973 … Airport shared the Region 5 championship with A.C. Flora and Midland Valley and earned a home date in the first round of the playoffs for fourth year in a row. The Eagles (8-2) are 39-8 under Kirk Burnett since 2007 … Socastee (4-6) secure a playoff spot with a 44-13 Region 8 win over St. James last week.

A.C. FLORA vs. WILSON

Site: Florence Memorial Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Despite winning nine of 10 games, the Falcons still did not qualify for a home game in the first round of the state playoffs. ACF finished in a three-way tie for first place in Region 5, and was the odd team out in the tie-breaking format … Still, the Falcons had plenty to celebrate. After all, the 9-1 regular season record is the best in school history during the modern era (since 1970). The 1968 Falcons posted a 9-1-1 mark and the 1962 squad finished 10-1-1. The winning record this season was only the fifth the program has managed since 1979 … Offensively, Flora is averaging 236.3 rushing yards, 361.5 yards overall and 34.0 points a game. Edward Kirkland (110-825-5) and Sterling Mitchell (103-791-6) lead the way in the running game, QB Stephen Cagle is 65-for-125 passing for 1,151 yards and 11 touchdowns and Sam Caldera (23-435-7) is the top receiver … The Falcon defensive leaders include Justice Walker (114 tackles, 5 TFL, 5 interceptions), Dante Lovett (144 tackles, 14 TFL) and Travis Watson (79 tackles, 3 interceptions) … Wilson was a 42-13 winner over the Falcons in the only previous state playoff encounter between the teams in 2003.

BERKELEY vs. CAMDEN

Site: Zemp Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: Camden (9-1) nailed down second place in Region 6 with a 7-3 win over Marlboro County in last week’s regular-season finale. The decisive points came of a Dillon Morrow touchdown pass to Jerrod Beaufort with 5:05 left to play in the fourth quarter … The Bulldogs host Berkeley in the playoff opener. It’s the first Class 3A state playoff game for the Stags since the creation of 4A in 1968. Berkeley claimed the Division II state championship last season in its 4A swansong … Though the schools boast two of the most tradition-laden programs in SC history, the Bulldogs and Stags have never met – at least in the modern era (since 1970).

BROOKLAND-CAYCE vs. MYRTLE BEACH

Site: Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. Time: 7:30 p.m.

Game notes: The Bearcats won just two games in 2010, but it was enough to get the Bearcats a state playoff invitation. The stay figures to be a short one … QB Jonathan Rumph is the B-C star. He is 98-for-181 passing for 1,355 yards and eight touchdowns and also leads the Bearcats in rushing with 373 yards and three scores. B.J. Dewalt (36-641-5) is the top receiver … Myrtle Beach is 9-1, losing only to Byrnes (21-14) early in the season. Star QB Everett Golson has missed most of the season with an injury, but the potent Seahawks offense has hardly missed a beat. Michael Campbell stepped in and is 167-for-250 passing for 2,295 yards and 30 TDs. Donte Sumter (60-912-9), Dallas Goodman (39-621-10) and Jaquan Wilson (33-353-5) are the outstanding receivers. Daiquone Ford (111-1066-15) in the main man on the ground … The bottom line: Myrtle Beach ranked third in the state in scoring offense, first in 3A at 46.3 points a game, while B-C is 157th in scoring defense (31.6 ppg). Do the math.
