MID-CAROLINA AT STROM THURMOND

Mid-Carolina notes: The Prosperity Rebels (10-1) edged Pendleton 14-7 in a tough Class 2A first-round contest at home. Nick Sims-Metts was the Bulldog star with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 11 carries … M-C will be looking to advance to the third round for the first time since 1996.

Strom Thurmond notes: The Edgefield County Rebels (9-2) breezed by Lee Central 55-8 last week behind Releigh Yeldell. The junior quarterback was 5-for-8 passing for 139 yards and three TDs and ran for 114 yards rushing on six carries … Yeldell, Darius Hammond and Chris Blocker have combined for more than 2,100 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns.

Playoff history: Mid-Carolina boasts a 17-14 postseason record since 1970, and bagged a 2A state championship in 1985. The Rebels have an impressive playoff resume – winning 43 of 67 games, and advanced to five state championship games though the years. Thurmond, however, has yet to prevail in a title bout.
