MID-CAROLINA AT STROM THURMOND
Mid-Carolina notes: The Prosperity Rebels (10-1) edged Pendleton 14-7 in a tough Class 2A first-round contest at home. Nick Sims-Metts was the Bulldog star with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 11 carries M-C will be looking to advance to the third round for the first time since 1996.
Strom Thurmond notes: The Edgefield County Rebels (9-2) breezed by Lee Central 55-8 last week behind Releigh Yeldell. The junior quarterback was 5-for-8 passing for 139 yards and three TDs and ran for 114 yards rushing on six carries Yeldell, Darius Hammond and Chris Blocker have combined for more than 2,100 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns.
Playoff history: Mid-Carolina boasts a 17-14 postseason record since 1970, and bagged a 2A state championship in 1985. The Rebels have an impressive playoff resume winning 43 of 67 games, and advanced to five state championship games though the years. Thurmond, however, has yet to prevail in a title bout.
