Ashley Johnson enters her second season as the head coach of the girls basketball team at Fairfield Central. The goal is to improve upon last seasons 5-18 performance.
We are continuing to build our program and our goal is to finish over .500, developing fundamental skills and knowledge of the game, said Johnson. We also hope make it to the playoffs this year, as well.
The Griffins lost five players to graduation and have four seniors on the team, two of which did not play last season.
The team will be young but they are devoted and eager to accomplish the teams objectives, said Johnson.
Seniors ShaTeal Reynolds and Shanese Mathis and sophomore Kaneka Butler are the returning starters and the veteran building blocks. Reynolds averaged 15 points a game last season.
Johnson said Jada Martin and Tiea'Quanna Pearson are newcomers to watch.
The Griffins are off to a tough start, scoring just 44 points combined in losses to tough foes Keenan and Blythewood.
