Lugoff-Elgin placed 14th in the 37-team field at the elite Southern Slam wrestling tournament last weekend in Greenville.

The shorthanded Demons rang up 104 points, not bad considering the team scratched two of the 13 lineup slots and was without the services of standouts Zach Connell, Alonzo Grant, Theo Shepard and Tony Murphy.

Connell, Grant and Shepard were not entered and Murphy suffered an injury in his first match and did not return.

Cody Humphries and Parker Singleton were the L-E leaders. Humphries won three in a row to reach the semifinals, and his final 4-2 mark was good for fifth-place honors at 215. Singleton went 5-3 and finished in sixth place at 145 pounds.

Cody Enfield (3-2 at 160) was the other Demon entry to emerge with a winning record.

L-E hosts Chapin, currently ranked No. 2 in Class 3A and coming off a win at the Palmetto State Classic tournament, and small-school powerhouse Chesterfield in a tri-match of note on Wednesday. The Demons are off to another tournament this weekend at Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
