Chapin, the second-ranked team in Class 3A wrestling, turned in a first-place effort last weekend at the Outback wrestling tournament hosted by North Myrtle Beach High.

The bulk of the Eagles 190 team points came from six individual place winners – a group lead by individual champions Chandler Owens, Nate Polly and Chase Owens.

Chandler Owens went 4-0 on the way to top honors at 103. Polly, the 2010 state champion at 130 pounds, claimed 140 honors with a 4-0 record. Chase Owens was 4-0 at 145.

Otherwise, Stuart Hope and Scott Swindell secured runner-up honors with 3-1 records at 119 and 160, respectively. Cody Brundage went 5-2 and earned fourth place at 152.

Two-time state 3A champion Hope fell to two-time state 4A champion Jordan Wigger in one of the highlight showdowns at the tournament. Wigger handed Hope his first loss of the season and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the lower weights.
