Chapin stars Stuart Hope and Nate Polly, Irmos T.J. Dudley and Blane Bryant and Drehers William Bloch earned all-tournament honors at the U.S. Navy Duals wrestling event hosted by Chapin at the State Fairgrounds.
Asa Gossett and Kevin Epting of tournament runner-up White Knoll were the other Midlands all-tournament man.
Hope and Polly both went 6-0 at the two-day event. Hope made the cut at 119 pounds, Polly at 135. Four of Pollys wins came by fall. Dudley and Bryant both turned in 7-0 report cards to make the grade at 140 and 189, respectively. Both Yellow Jackets stars had three pins along the way. Bloch went 7-0 with five pins and one technical fall to rate an all-star berth at 130.
In team matters, Irmo was the top Midlands entry behind White Knoll, though Chapin and Sumter both placed a bit higher. But the Yellow Jackets 5-2 record (2-1 in pool play, 3-1 in the placement rounds) was the best overall area showing behind White Knolls 6-1 performance. Dudley and Bryant were not the only Irmo standouts. Louis Biles (103) and Brandon Corley (160) both finished with 6-1 individual records, while Robert Modzel (145) and heavyweight Myles Gardner both checked in at 5-2.
Chapins 4-2 record was good for a third place team finish, while Sumter finished fourth despite a 4-3 mark. The only other Chapin standouts were Austin Reid (4-2 at 103) and Chase Owens (4-1 at 145). Matt Devine had an undefeated showing, going 7-0 with five pins at 140, but that was not good enough to make the all-tournament team cut. Peter Hackett (5-2, 3 pins, at 112) and Hayden Raabe (4-2 at 145) were the other Gamecocks stalwarts.
Bloch and teammate Dante Martin (6-1, 3 pins at 189) were outstanding, but Dreher managed just a 2-5 record.
