Chapin crushed defending Lower State champion Hilton Head 58-3 on Monday to advance to the semifinal round of the Class 3A state wrestling playoff for the third year in a row.

The Eagles (24-2) travel to face St. James on Wednesday with a spot in Saturday state championship bout at Dreher on the line. Chapin has never won a state title in the dual meet format. In fact, the Eagles have been to the finals just one time in 2005 (losing to mighty Eastside).

West-Oak hosts Eastside in the Upper State finale on Wednesday.

Chapin won 12 of the 13 bouts contested and picked up one forfeit win. The only loss came in the last match of the night.

The rest of the points came via decisions by Russel Smigelski (112), Stuart Hope (119), Austin Brown (130), Chase Owens (140), Cody Brundage (145), Seth Stevens (160) and Brandon Owens (215).
