The driver of a Nissan was charged with felony DUI after he ran off a Richland County road early Sunday morning and overturned, killing a passenger.

Nathaniel Shiver, 28, was in the Alvin Glenn Detention Center on Sunday afternoon.

The dead passenger, Dexter Huguenin, 40, of Gadsden, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Huguenin died at the scene, Watts said.

Shiver and a second passenger, neither of whom were wearing seat belts, were also ejected, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Both survivors were taken to Palmetto Richland.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. on Vanboklen Road (S.C. 263), about one mile east of Eastover.
