Trump to attend Columbia rally

May 4, 2011

Celebrity businessman and potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will speak at a Columbia Tea Party meeting on May 19th at the State House.

Trump has been flirting with the media about a run for months, pressing President Barack Obama on his birth certficate -- since released -- and now his college transcripts. Trump has found sustained support among the Tea Party movement nationally, and attendees at a recent Tax Day rally said they viewed him favorably.

Trump polled third, at 11.3 percent, among those likely to vote in the 2012 S.C. GOP primary, according to an April Winthrop University poll.

The event will begin at 6 p.m.
